TONO, the time-based art festival, has announced its 2026 lineup, running March 6–22 across Mexico City and Puebla. The program includes video installations, performance commissions, music events, and screenings at venues such as Laboratorio Arte Alameda, Casa del Lago UNAM, Museo Jumex, Museo de Arte Moderno, and Museo Amparo. Featured artists include Tino Sehgal, Space Afrika, Franziska Aigner, Kelman Duran, Ho Tzu Nyen, Avantgardo, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, and Melanie Smith. International collaborations bring dance works via 99 Canal and Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels, and a joint evening with Berlin’s Neue Nationalgalerie. The festival is also co-producing Camille Henrot’s exhibition Água Viva at São Paulo’s Instituto Bardi.

A brush with… Kader Attia—podcast

Kader Attia, the Algerian-French artist born in 1970, is the subject of a podcast interview that explores his three-decade career across photography, collage, sculpture, installation, and sound. Attia, who lives in Berlin and Paris, discusses his central concept of "repair" and how it connects to violence, injury, colonialism, and political issues. He reflects on his Algerian-French identity, his travels in Congo and Mexico, and his influences from Michelangelo to writers like Karima Lazali, Édouard Glissant, and Aimé Césaire. The podcast also highlights his current exhibitions, including "Shattering and Gathering our Traces" at Lehmann Maupin in New York, "The Lost Paradise" at Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo in Seville, and "A Descent into Paradise" at Museo Amparo in Puebla, Mexico, as well as his participation in the Bienal de São Paulo and the 24th Paiz Art Biennial.

Robert Smith & José Bayro C.’s “Parallel Origins” Exhibition to Open at Barton Art Galleries

Barton Art Galleries in Wilson, North Carolina, will open "Parallel Origins: From Distant Roots to Shared Worlds" on February 5, 2026, featuring works by Robert Smith and José Bayro C. The exhibition runs through March 13 and pairs two artists who share a studio in Puebla, Mexico, but present distinct bodies of work exploring memory, material, and personal history. It marks Barton College's first dual-artist residency, during which Smith and Bayro will collaborate with students in the "Studio Concepts" course, lead community workshops, and engage in open studio sessions and interdisciplinary conversations.
