The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers have opened the seventh annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards: New York City Regional Exhibition at The Met’s Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education. Running through May 21, 2021, the free exhibition features over 200 works of art and writing by New York City-based Gold Key recipients in grades 7–12, selected from more than 10,000 submissions across 28 categories. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the works are displayed as framed prints to ensure equitable access.
The Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock, California, will host its annual youth art exhibition, “Ready, Set, Show!”, from May 29 to June 27. The 3rd Annual Envisioning A Just Pittsburgh Call for Art has closed its 2025 submissions as of November 2. The theme asks artists to explore how libraries, archives, and storytelling can serve as conduits for education, activism, and a more equitable Pittsburgh. Categories include writing, visual art, performance, video/interdisciplinary work, and youth arts. Juried winners will be announced in December 2025, with exhibitions and performances held at venues such as Carnegie Museums, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh, 1Hood Media, and the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in February 2026. Monetary awards range from $50 to $2,000.
Savannah Penven, a 2024 graduate of Virginia Tech, has returned to the Center for the Arts as exhibitions program manager, a decade after her own artwork was featured in the center's first "Young Artists" exhibition in 2014. She now coordinates the current "Young Artists: dreamscapes" show, featuring 39 students from Craig County High School, and works to create validating, professional-level exhibition experiences for young creatives.
Arts Carleton Place is set to host its 2026 Fine Art Exhibition on May 2 and 3 at the Carleton Place Arena Upper Hall. The 33rd Annual Creative Youth Art League exhibition opened at the LaGrange Art Museum on April 26, 2026, with award winners announced for student-created artworks. Jackson Rakestraw, a 9th grader from Heard County High, won the Morrill Hutchinson Award for Best of Show, while Taylor Norred, an 11th grader from Troup High, received the Wates Keller Award for Best of Show in Troup County. The exhibition features over 384 students from 30 schools and homeschool groups across four Georgia counties, with categories spanning drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, and photography.
Bluffton High School student Lizzy Suter has been named a finalist in the 2026 Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition in Columbus, Ohio. Her winning entry is a photograph featuring a painted figure in a white-tinted bath, created in the distinct trompe l'oeil style of artist Alexa Meade with additional digital color effects.
The South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) announced the return of the INSPIRED MINDS: Young Artist Exhibition, a showcase of visual art by high school students from Essex County, running from May 15 to August 17, 2025, in the Herb + Milly Iris Gallery. Over 1,000 submissions were received, with a jury selecting about 80 pieces for display. The opening reception on May 15 will also feature the third annual Paul Bartick Emerging Artist Award, presented to Millburn High School senior Obenewaa Frimpomaa, a Scholastic National Gold Art Medalist whose work explores identity, history, and empowerment of underrepresented voices.
