Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme present 'Prisoners of Love: Until the Sun of Freedom' at MACBA – Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona. The immersive installation explores Palestinian incarceration through sound, memory, and poetic fragments, refusing linear narrative and documentary conventions. It features testimonies, songs, and spectral traces that create a polyphonic meditation on captivity, resistance, and the persistence of voice against erasure.
This work matters because it challenges dominant archival and documentary forms that have historically reduced Palestinian experience to objects of evidence. By centering song and embodied memory as life-sustaining practices of resistance, Abbas and Abou-Rahme offer a critical alternative to conventional art historical and political representation. The installation insists that form itself is a site of resistance, engaging with the politics of visibility, structural racism, and colonial power in contemporary art discourse.
