Broken Hill Gallery Launches Anonymous Art Fundraiser

Broken Hill City Art Gallery in Australia has launched 'Hart for Art,' an anonymous community art exhibition and fundraiser marking the 20th anniversary of the death of iconic local artist Pro Hart. The event, held in conjunction with Global MND Awareness Day on June 21, 2026, invites artists of all ages and skill levels to submit original A5 artworks in any medium. All works will be sold anonymously for a fixed price of $50, with half the proceeds supporting Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research and care, and the remainder funding conservation of the gallery's collection.

This initiative matters because it combines community engagement with a pressing health cause, honoring Pro Hart's legacy while raising funds for MND—a disease that affects many Australian families. The anonymous format democratizes art buying, encouraging purchases based on emotional connection rather than artist reputation. It also highlights how regional galleries can serve as hubs for both cultural participation and social impact, potentially inspiring similar models elsewhere.
