This cemetery on the outskirts of Paris becomes an open-air art gallery, with 40 works of art between the tombs.

From May 30 to November 15, 2026, the Parisian cemetery of Pantin will host an open-air contemporary art exhibition titled "Demeure." Organized by the POUSH collective, the exhibition features over 40 works by 21 artists along the allée des Sophoras, a one-kilometer route through the cemetery. Highlights include an interactive eye embedded in stone, charred wooden bats hidden in trees, a wax funeral wreath, and live webcam feeds from Andy Warhol's grave in Pennsylvania. The exhibition is free and open daily, with guided tours available from Thursday to Saturday.

This initiative matters because it transforms a traditionally solemn space into a vibrant cultural venue, strengthening the connection between memory, art, and nature. By placing contemporary art among tombstones, the project challenges perceptions of cemeteries as overlooked spaces and invites reflection on life, death, and remembrance. POUSH, a collective known for repurposing abandoned sites, continues its mission to make art accessible to all while revitalizing neglected locations. The exhibition exemplifies how contemporary art can engage with history and emotion in unexpected settings.
