Garden project, art exhibition rooted in memory of Salmon Arm resident

The Salmon Arm Art Gallery will present "The Tangled Garden," an open-entry members' exhibition running from June 20 to August 29, 2026. Curated by Erin Stodola, the show honors the memory of Deloris Mori, a longtime volunteer and supporter of the gallery who passed away in July 2025. The exhibition coincides with the renaming of the gallery's SAGA endowment fund as the Delores Mori Gallery Endowment Fund, and includes a garden replanting project featuring drought-tolerant landscaping. Artists were challenged to work exclusively with biodegradable materials, and the exhibition will feature a collaborative title wall created by community participants.

This exhibition matters because it demonstrates how a small community gallery can integrate memorial, sustainability, and participatory art practices. By requiring biodegradable materials and rewilding the gallery's outdoor space, the show models environmentally conscious art-making while honoring a key local figure. The endowment fund ensures ongoing support for exhibition programming, strengthening the gallery's long-term financial stability and community engagement.
