Un ex magazzino portuale di Atene si trasforma in spazio culturale. Le immagini

An early 20th-century warehouse in the port of Piraeus, Athens, has been transformed into a multifunctional cultural space called Castor Place. Architect Andreas Kostopoulos, founder of Manhattan Projects New York City (MPNYC), led the renovation, preserving the building's industrial character while adapting it for performing arts, exhibitions, and events. The space opens with a site-specific exhibition by artist Stefania Strouza, curated by Giulio Margheri, featuring monumental cast-aluminum doors and a decade of her sculptures and installations exploring the relationship between natural environments and human infrastructure.

This project matters because it marks the first step in a broader cultural reconfiguration of Piraeus, an area historically defined by its port. By repurposing a former warehouse into a contemporary art venue, Castor Place signals a shift in the district's identity, positioning it as an emerging international art destination. The renovation's careful balance of historical layers and modern design exemplifies how adaptive reuse can revitalize urban areas while preserving their heritage.
