Visual artist Avi Shankar Ain's third solo painting exhibition, 'Atmospheres of Time,' is currently on view at Platforms Gallery in Gulshan, Dhaka. The three-week show, which opened on May 16, features 30 acrylic and oil paintings on canvas and linen that explore the passage of time and changing seasons through an abstract expressionist style. Works such as 'Oceanic Fury,' 'Midnight Storm,' and 'Tempest of Paradise' depict the sea's dual nature of calm and violence, with rough textures and blurry edges transforming everyday landscapes into emotional spaces.
The exhibition matters because it highlights how a contemporary Bangladeshi artist uses abstract expressionism to engage with universal themes of time, nature, and human emotion. By intentionally omitting human figures, Ain allows the environment itself to convey emotional presence, offering viewers a meditative experience that connects external landscapes with internal psychological states. The show runs through June 7, contributing to Dhaka's growing contemporary art scene.
