Landscapes of the Era Captured on Hanji and Canvas

Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, has opened a special exhibition titled 'Art Bank IN Cheongsong' at the Cheongsong Yasong Art Museum, featuring 22 works from the collection of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) and the museum's own holdings. The exhibition, running until July 28, includes 17 pieces from MMCA's Art Bank and 5 from Yasong Art Museum, displayed in separate halls for Western-style and Korean-style paintings. It is part of the '2026 Art Bank Collection Exhibition Support Project' aimed at sharing cultural resources beyond the Seoul metropolitan area.

This exhibition matters because it addresses the cultural gap between the capital region and rural areas, bringing high-quality contemporary art to local residents who otherwise have limited access. By combining art with Cheongsong's natural environment, the initiative also aims to boost regional cultural tourism and infrastructure. The inclusion of educational programs, such as a curator-for-a-day workshop, further enhances public engagement with contemporary art, demonstrating a model for decentralizing cultural resources in South Korea.
