A Major New Contemporary Arts Venue is Opening on London’s South Bank This Month

A new contemporary arts venue, Hypha Gallery South Bank, will open on June 25, 2026, in a disused office building on Southwark Bridge Road in London. Created by the arts charity Hypha Studios, the space features three gallery rooms spanning nearly 800 square meters, a project space for pop-ups and live events, and free studio space for 17 emerging artists. The gallery launches with three debut exhibitions: 'Bridging the Gap' with sculptures inspired by Southwark Bridge, a site-specific show exploring local histories, and an immersive sound installation of microbes and fungi. The venue aims to support around 600 artists over its first year.

This opening matters because it introduces a major new free-entry arts hub on London’s South Bank, directly challenging the dominance of established institutions like Tate Modern. By repurposing a vacant office building and offering free studio space, Hypha Studios demonstrates a sustainable model for supporting emerging artists and fostering community engagement. The venue’s year-round programme of exhibitions, pop-ups, and performances could reshape the cultural landscape of Bankside, making contemporary art more accessible and inclusive.
