Glacier Art Museum features Whitefish artist with Indigenous roots

Glacier Art Museum in Montana is presenting a new solo exhibition, “Where Currents Carry the Soul: Recent Work by True Archdale,” featuring over 25 works by Whitefish-based multimedia artist True Archdale, an enrolled member of the Assiniboine tribe. The exhibition opens with a preview reception on June 18, 2025, featuring live music by cellist Lee Zimmerman, and runs through September 26. Archdale’s work blends Indigenous cultural symbols with contemporary abstract techniques and repurposed materials, and the show also includes her award-winning film “Wolf Point: Red Road Stories.”

This exhibition matters because it highlights the work of a Native American artist returning to her home state after decades in Los Angeles, bringing visibility to Indigenous contemporary art in a regional museum context. It also connects to broader cultural events like Sovereign Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Indian Market, underscoring the growing recognition of Indigenous artists within the mainstream art world.
