Wanda Hollensteiner Art Gallery features work of Tom Saubert

The Wanda Hollensteiner Art Gallery has opened a new exhibition titled “The Artist’s Studio: Tom Saubert,” honoring gallery donors James and Wanda Hollensteiner. The show, running through August 14, features the work of Tom Saubert, an award-winning painter of the American West known for his figurative works and portraits. The exhibition focuses on Saubert’s creative process, his studio in Creston filled with reference materials and historical regalia, and his deep scholarly engagement with Native American culture and artifacts. Saubert is also scheduled for a solo show at the Glacier Art Museum next summer.

This exhibition matters because it highlights the intersection of fine art and cultural scholarship, showcasing how Saubert’s meticulous research into Native American history and material culture informs his authentic portrayals. By honoring the Hollensteiners’ philanthropy, the gallery underscores the role of donor support in sustaining local art programming. The show also provides a rare glimpse into an artist’s working environment, offering visitors insight into the methods behind historically informed figurative painting.
