Students from the Herricks High School Student Theater Arts Company have installed a public art exhibition at Humble Café in Williston Park, running through June 21. The show features black-and-white street photography taken during a field trip to New York City, along with watercolors and paper quilling art. Students applied Gestalt principles of visual perception to organize the gallery layout and gained hands-on experience managing and installing a public exhibition from start to finish.
This exhibition matters because it provides young artists with real-world experience in curating and installing a public show outside the school setting, bridging classroom learning with community engagement. By displaying their work in a local café, students connect with a broader audience and gain confidence in presenting art professionally, highlighting the value of arts education in suburban public schools.
