Alliance Française de Hong Kong and the University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) of the University of Hong Kong have announced "The Little Prince and the Pilot" exhibition, running from 26 June to 18 October 2026 as part of the French May Arts Festival. The show commemorates the 80th anniversary of the first publication of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's classic novella, featuring rare photographs, personal letters, manuscripts, drawings, first editions, and multilingual translations. It also includes eight life-sized coloured sculptures inspired by the story, available for pre-order, along with educational workshops, school tours, and French courses. Adrien Guiraud, the author's great-great-nephew, will attend the opening.
This exhibition matters because it brings a globally beloved literary and artistic work to Hong Kong in a major cultural milestone, blending visual art, literature, and history across generations. By showcasing Saint-Exupéry's life as an aviator, writer, and artist, the show highlights the enduring humanist legacy of "The Little Prince" and reinforces Hong Kong's role as a hub for international cultural exchange. The collaboration between Alliance Française, UMAG, and multiple sponsors also underscores the importance of cross-institutional partnerships in presenting heritage-focused art exhibitions.
