WNMU Honors Artistic Excellence at 2026 BFA Art Exhibition

Western New Mexico University's Expressive Arts Department and Francis McCray Gallery of Contemporary Art celebrated the Spring 2026 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition, which concluded May 7. The show featured multidisciplinary works by graduating seniors Nayeli Mancilla, Eric Luther, Chris Martinez, and Bee Drissell, who presented their thesis projects through formal Artist Talks at Light Hall and an opening reception at the Francis McCray Gallery. Associate Professor and Department Chair Courtney Michaud praised the students' dedication and the faculty's mentorship.

This exhibition matters as a capstone event that marks the transition of students into professional contemporary artists, highlighting the role of regional university art programs in fostering cultural preservation, critical inquiry, and diverse perspectives. It underscores the importance of arts education in preparing artists to contribute to national and global conversations through creative practice.
