Im Auge des Orkans

Chinese artist Shuang Li presents a new film installation at Kunsthalle Basel, inspired by her research on tornadoes in the American Midwest. Between March and June, she and her film crew chased storms across Arkansas and Oklahoma, drawing parallels between the unpredictability of extreme natural forces and the behavior of digital algorithms.

The exhibition matters because it bridges the gap between natural phenomena and digital culture, using the metaphor of a storm's eye to explore how invisible systems—both meteorological and computational—shape human experience. It positions Shuang Li as a leading voice in contemporary art that interrogates technology through visceral, immersive storytelling.
