Broadway Museum and Art Gallery in Worcestershire will open an exhibition titled "Buried Lives: Unearthing 8,000 Years of Broadway’s History" on July 4, 2026. The show features archaeological finds from flood alleviation works in 2016, including a rare 4,000-year-old ceramic Beaker vessel from the Early Bronze Age, displayed for the first time in Broadway. The beaker, discovered by Worcestershire Archaeology, is uniquely decorated and associated with burial practices, though no human remains were found with it. The exhibition runs until October 23, 2026, followed by artefacts from the Milestone Ground Dig on view until February 26, 2027.
The exhibition matters because it brings a significant Bronze Age archaeological discovery to public view in a local museum context, offering residents and visitors a tangible connection to ancient life in the Cotswolds. It highlights the role of community museums in preserving and interpreting regional heritage, and the importance of archaeological finds made during infrastructure projects. The display also provides educational opportunities through handling sessions, talks, and guided tours, fostering engagement with local history.
