La Spezia: The Lia Museum Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary—OZMO Engages with the Collection in a Site-Specific Exhibition

The Amedeo Lia Civic Museum in La Spezia is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the exhibition "OZMO X LIA 30 – Inside the Collection," running from July 3 to December 3, 2026. The show features a dialogue between four masterpieces from the permanent collection—including Pontormo's *Self-Portrait* and a *Head of Apollo*—and new site-specific works by contemporary artist OZMO (Gionata Gesi), who was commissioned for the occasion. The project also includes the redesign of the museum entrance and the creation of a new educational space called "Lia Next."

This exhibition matters because it exemplifies a growing trend of museums integrating contemporary art directly into their historical collections, creating dynamic dialogues across centuries. The acquisition of OZMO's four new canvases by the City of La Spezia as a structural part of the project ensures that the contemporary works become permanent additions to the collection, enriching the museum's heritage and bridging past and present. It also highlights how regional museums can use anniversaries to revitalize their spaces and engage new audiences through site-specific commissions.
