Local Artist and Educator Eva Siefert Showcases Recycled Media Art at Whittemore Library

Throughout June, the Howard Whittemore Memorial Library in Naugatuck is hosting a solo exhibition of recycled media art by local artist and retired educator Eva Siefert. The collection, displayed on the library’s Whittemore Gallery Wall, features intricate pieces made from discarded materials such as frozen pizza cardboard boxes and leftover wallpaper, with an emphasis on glitter to add depth and texture. Siefert holds a BFA from Villanova University and a Master of Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University, and she previously taught art in Naugatuck Public Schools.

This exhibition matters because it highlights the growing trend of sustainable art within a community library setting, making eco-conscious creativity accessible to the public. It also underscores the role of retired educators in continuing to foster local arts engagement, demonstrating how discarded materials can be transformed into meaningful visual works.
