The National Art Gallery in Islamabad opened “REJECTED,” the culminating exhibition of OffGrid Residency Chapter 4, on June 18, 2026. The show features new works by sixteen contemporary artists from Lahore and Islamabad, created during a two-week intensive residency. Across ceramics, painting, sculpture, mixed-media, calligraphy, and literary expression, the artists explore themes of exclusion, self-rejection, and resilience. The exhibition was inaugurated by a group of seasoned artists who emphasized the importance of dialogue and mentorship in the creative process.
The exhibition matters because it reframes rejection as a source of transformation rather than an ending, offering a timely meditation on resilience in the face of personal and societal exclusion. By bringing together diverse artistic voices from Pakistan’s twin cities, “REJECTED” highlights the role of residencies and mentorship in nurturing emerging talent. The show also demonstrates how contemporary art in Pakistan engages with universal human experiences through locally grounded perspectives, reinforcing the National Art Gallery’s role as a platform for innovative, socially relevant work.
