nigo london design museum retrospective 2744721

London’s Design Museum has announced a major retrospective for the Japanese creative polymath NIGO, marking his first significant museum exhibition outside of Japan. Opening in May, the show will feature over 700 objects, including vintage clothing, childhood artifacts, and runway looks that trace his evolution from a punk-influenced student at Bunka Fashion College to the founder of A Bathing Ape (BAPE) and the current artistic director of Kenzo.

The exhibition is significant for its exploration of how NIGO bridged the gap between streetwear and high luxury, a shift that has redefined the modern fashion and art landscapes. Beyond fashion, the show highlights his deep ties to the visual art world, showcasing his personal collection of works by artists like KAWS and Takashi Murakami, as well as debuting 25 of his own hand-thrown ceramic pots, positioning him as a central figure in contemporary cross-disciplinary design.
