Disparition de Denis Coekelberghs
Denis Coekelberghs, an art historian and contributor to La Tribune de l'Art, died on February 25 at the age of 85. He was a specialist in the work of François-Joseph Navez and Flemish Baroque sculpture, and earned his doctorate in art history from the Catholic University of Louvain in 1976.
His death marks the loss of a significant scholar whose research focused on Belgian painters in Rome and Belgian Neoclassicism. His doctoral thesis led to a major 1985 exhibition at the Musée Communal d'Ixelles, cementing his legacy in the study of 18th and 19th-century Belgian art and its Roman connections.
