Guinea has presented its first-ever national pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale. Titled 'Le Son de l’Art,' the exhibition is installed on the island of San Servolo and is curated by Koyo Kouoh, featuring a multidisciplinary group of artists exploring memory, materiality, and postcolonial identity.
The debut marks a significant moment for Guinea's presence on the global art stage, challenging the historical Eurocentric focus of major international exhibitions. It represents a growing trend of nations from the Global South asserting their cultural narratives within the prestigious and historically exclusive context of the Venice Biennale, amplifying underrepresented voices and expanding the canon of contemporary art.
