The South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) has named Farida Sherif, a senior at Verona High School, as the recipient of its 2026 Paul Bartick Emerging Artist Award. Sherif was selected by an award committee for the strength, individuality, and compelling voice of her work, which she developed through SOPAC's Inspired Minds Young Artist Exhibition program. She will receive the award at a gallery opening reception on May 14, 2026.
The award, named for longtime SOPAC supporter Paul Bartick, celebrates and supports young artists at a pivotal stage in their development. This year, increased funding from board member Marc Chalom also allowed SOPAC to honor three additional students with honorable mentions. The award underscores the center's mission to nurture emerging artistic talent within the community and highlights the critical role educators play in identifying and encouraging young artists.
