The Association of International Photography Art Dealers (Aipad) has opened the 45th edition of The Photography Show at New York's Park Avenue Armory. The fair features around 65 exhibitors in its main section, with a new Focal Point sector highlighting 13 solo presentations by boundary-pushing artists. Returning participants include major New York photography galleries, alongside first-time exhibitors and galleries returning after an absence.
The fair positions itself as an entry point for new collectors due to photography's accessible price range, while also catering to connoisseurs with works spanning from a few hundred dollars to rare pieces by masters like Man Ray. Executive director Lydia Melamed Johnson argues that the rise of AI-generated imagery has clarified photography's importance as a human-driven, technological medium with a 200-year history. The event showcases the medium's full evolution, from early plates to contemporary mixed-media works.
