Amanda Carneiro and Raphael Fonseca to curate 2027 Bienal de São Paulo

Amanda Carneiro and Raphael Fonseca have been named curators of the 2027 Bienal de São Paulo. Carneiro, a curator at MASP since 2018, has organized solo exhibitions for artists including Santiago Yahuarcani, Beatriz Milhazes, and Sonia Gomes, and was part of Adriano Pedrosa’s curatorial team for the 2024 Venice Biennale. Fonseca, visual arts programmer at Culturgest and curator-at-large at the Denver Art Museum, is currently curating the Taiwan Pavilion for the 2026 Venice Biennale and co-curating the 3rd Counterpublic Triennial. He also curated the 2025 Bienal do Mercosul.

Artistic director of Malba steps down after one year in role

Rodrigo Moura is stepping down as artistic director of the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (Malba) after only one year in the role. His departure follows the museum's acquisition of the Daros Latinamerica Collection, which doubled Malba's holdings with over 1,200 works and triggered a major institutional restructuring, including the creation of a new chief executive position. Moura, a Brazilian curator who previously worked at El Museo del Barrio, Masp, and Inhotim Institute, will leave next month as the museum prepares for its 25th anniversary and a physical expansion to twice its current capacity.

New Museum’s longtime director to retire after building expansion opens

Lisa Phillips, the director of the New Museum in Manhattan since 1999, will retire in April 2026 after the completion of an $82 million expansion designed by OMA and Cooper Robertson. The expansion, which doubles the museum's exhibition space, is set to reopen this autumn, marking the culmination of Phillips's transformative 26-year tenure. She will become director emeritus and curate an exhibition on the Bowery's artistic history.
