Throughline Announces Artists Selected for “Future Forward” Exhibition

Throughline Collective in Houston has announced the 15 artists selected for "Future Forward," a group exhibition featuring graduate and undergraduate art students from across Texas. Guest curated by Madi Murphy, Associate Curator of FotoFest, the show opens with a public reception on August 8, 2025, at Throughline Gallery and runs through August 30. Selected artists include students from universities in Denton, Houston, Lubbock, and San Antonio, working in painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and textile-based art.

Space as Practice. A Decade of WL4 Art Space.

WL4 Art Space in Gdańsk, Poland, celebrates its tenth anniversary. Founded in 2015 when a group of artists took over a former bakery at Wiosny Ludów 4, the space has evolved from a practical need for studios into a self-organized, grassroots collective. Operating in a raw industrial building that once housed a giant steam bread oven, WL4 resists traditional display protocols, treating the site as a collaborator rather than a neutral container. Co-founder Adriana Majdzińska recalls the early euphoria as artists quickly filled the studios, building and adapting spaces while maintaining a simple rule: you had to be actively creating.

Red Calliope Gallery on Evers Hosts Art Exhibit

Red Calliope Gallery on Evers, a new art gallery and champagne bar in Plant City, Florida, is hosting an exhibit featuring local artists. The gallery, owned by self-taught artist Rachel and woodcraftsman Mark Dummeldinger, opened in March and recently held a juried competition called Dog Days of Summer, judged by local artist Liza Compass. Emerging 18-year-old Indian artist Prithveer Jain is presenting his second solo exhibition, “Circus: The Late Arrival,” at IF.BE in Mumbai from July 31 to August 3, 2025. The show features paintings that blend portraiture with emotional cartography, exploring themes of identity, selfhood, and psychological delay through stylized, surreal figures and symbolic imagery such as ropes, curtains, and hats.

Work by artist Susan Hanson on display at UNE Campus Center through August 29

The University of New England (UNE) is hosting the art exhibition “Maine Moments” by artist Susan Hanson at the UNE Campus Center in Biddeford from July 29 to August 29. Hanson, a photographer and former art educator, works in oil, acrylic, and gouache paints, focusing on Maine’s seasonal landscapes. Her work has been shown in a dozen exhibits around Maine since 2011, and she self-published the book “Marsh Moods” after photographing the Scarborough Marsh for a year.

Grammy-winning jazz percussionist Pete Escovedo, father of Sheila E., unveiled his latest art exhibition, "The California Art Tour (Oakland chapter)," at The Grand Gallery in Oakland on July 17, 2025. The event doubled as a celebration of his 90th birthday. The exhibit features abstract paintings of faces, primarily women, in vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows, including a self-portrait from 2003 on loan from his private collection. William Way Opens 19th Annual Group Art Exhibition featuring local LGBTQ+ artists

The William Way LGBT Community Center in Philadelphia has opened its 19th Annual Group Art Exhibition, featuring three local LGBTQ+ artists: Daniel de Jesús, Kenzi Crash, and James Rose. The artists were selected from participants in the center's January Juried Art Exhibition, with local artist Gabriel Martinez serving as the designated judge. Art Exhibitions Manager Jake Foster curated the show, which presents each artist's individual work without a unifying theme. De Jesús blends mysticism, Catholic iconography, and queer identity; Crash presents a photography installation exploring queer intimacy; and Rose debuts a new series of self-portraits examining identity and emotion. The exhibition runs through August 28 and is also viewable online, with 65% of sales going to the artists.

No One Knows All It Takes // Haggerty

The Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University will present the exhibition "No One Knows All It Takes" from August 22 to December 20, 2025. Shunya Misawa, a young artist who won the New Artist Award at the 98th Doten (Hokkaido Art Association Exhibition), is holding his first solo exhibition at TO OV cafe / gallery in Sapporo. The show features 24 reptile paintings, including detailed pen drawings and copperplate prints of iguanas, skinks, and other reptiles, many inspired by his own pets. Misawa also displays his self-published "IGUANA REFERENCE BOOK," which explains iguana ecology and behavior.

6 curatorial projects picked for Art Macao 2025

The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macau has announced the six winning curatorial proposals selected for the 'Local Curatorial Project' of Art Macao 2025, the Macao International Art Biennale. Chosen from 34 submissions by a panel of international and local experts, the projects include 'Genetic Duration' by Guilherme Ung Vai Meng, 'After Oriental Garden' by Cheong Weng Lam, 'The Sea of Languages: Macao Language Research Programme' by He Yanjun and Zhang Ke, 'A Speakable Position for Women' by Cheong Cheng Wa and Wang Jing, 'Beneath the Wetware Peninsula' by Daisy Di Wang and Wong Mei Teng, and 'Jacone’s Tower' by Feng Yan and Ng Sio Ieng. These proposals will be exhibited during Art Macao 2025 and are shortlisted for the chance to represent Macau at the 61st Venice Biennale Collateral Event.

Awash in color: Newport Beach Art Exhibition showcases over 200 works by area artists

The 58th annual Newport Beach Art Exhibition took place on June 30, 2025, at the Newport Beach Civic Center, drawing about 2,000 attendees. The one-day event featured over 240 artworks including paintings, sculptures, photography, and mixed media, displayed in the Community Room and Civic Green. Notable participants included Joyce Cox, whose oil on linen painting "Soaking Up The Zen" attracted attention; Jeff Guzzetta, who won third place in 3-D art for a stained glass mosaic surfboard titled "Sol"; and Elena Kealy, who received the Juror's Choice Award for her oil on canvas work "Bliss." New exhibition Here We Are to open at three Scarborough art galleries - how to collect special badge

Byungjun Kwon: ‘I want to break away from the passive, one-sided way of experiencing performances’

Byungjun Kwon, a South Korean artist whose practice spans sound, technology, and performance, has been selected for the 2025 Korean Artists Today project. Kwon began his career as a singer-songwriter in the 1990s, later earning a degree in Art Science from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and working as a hardware engineer at the Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music in Amsterdam. His works include immersive sound installations, custom-built instruments, and robotic stage machinery, with pieces such as 'Self-sounding Town Resonant Village' (2019) exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Busan. He is currently preparing a new project, 'Speak Slowly, and It Will Become a Song', for the Aichi Triennale in Japan.

Mandarin Oriental, Macau marks 15th anniversary with new art exhibition

Mandarin Oriental, Macau launched a new contemporary Chinese art exhibition titled "Modern Vision, Timeless Technique" to mark its 15th anniversary at its current location. Women artists 'take up space' at the biggest gallery in town

Haarlem Resistance hero commemorated with illicit 'stumbling stone'

Ton Witteman, grandson of Dutch resistance hero Bart Witteman, has laid an unauthorized 'stumbling stone' (stolpersteine) in front of his grandfather's former home in Haarlem, Netherlands. Bart Witteman, a policeman who sheltered two Jewish people during World War II, was arrested, deported, and murdered by the Nazis in 1945. The city council had refused to include non-Jewish resistance figures in its official memorial program, which only covers the 733 murdered Jewish, Sinti, and Roma residents. Witteman obtained the hand-stamped brass plaque from German artist Gunter Demnig's Stolpersteine project and installed it himself with the current homeowners' blessing.

The Musée de la Reddition de Reims (Museum of the Surrender of Reims) reopened on May 7, the 81st anniversary of the German surrender signed in its map room, after a year-long closure. The renovation, costing approximately €2 million, focused on conservation: protective glazing, improved ventilation and lighting, and anoxic treatment of collections to halt degradation of original maps, documents, and war room objects. The museum also overhauled its scenography, designed by Belgian agency Kascen, to present a clearer chronological narrative covering the occupation, Allied presence in Reims, liberation, postwar reconstruction, and reconciliation, rather than just the surrender itself. The museum now displays 17 uniforms, 130 objects and weapons, and 65 archival documents, including the act of capitulation and General McAuliffe's jacket.
