A previously unknown sculpture by Alexander Calder, titled 'Stabile-mobile' (1974), will be auctioned by Oger – Blanchet at Hôtel Drouot in Paris on May 22. The small, kinetic work, estimated to sell for €80,000–€120,000, was a gift from the artist to an archivist at the French National Museum of Modern Art and has remained with her family for 50 years.
The Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris is presenting a major retrospective of Alexander Calder's work, titled "Calder. Rêver en Équilibre" ("Calder. Dreaming in Balance"). The exhibition, marking the 50th anniversary of the artist's death and the centenary of his first arrival in France, features nearly 300 works, including his iconic mobiles and stabiles.
Bottega Veneta's creative director Louise Trotter has launched 'Bottega Veneta for the Arts,' a new collaborative series aimed at connecting the fashion house with the art world. The inaugural project features British photographer Peter Fraser, who documented Trotter's debut collection in Italy's Veneto region, the brand's birthplace. This follows previous art collaborations with photographer Duane Michals and painter Poppy Jones.
Berliner Kupferstichkabinett gewinnt Auszeichnung in New York
The Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) in Berlin has acquired two new works from the IFPDA Fine Art Print Fair in New York. The purchases were funded by the museum winning the Richard Hamilton Acquisition Prize, which provided a $10,000 grant specifically for acquisitions at the fair. The new additions are a 2005 paper work titled "Europa" by German-American artist Kiki Smith and a 2001 lithograph titled "Pregnant Caryatid" by Louise Bourgeois.
