SFMOMA is deaccessioning a Mark Rothko painting estimated at $35–50 million, while the AGO is selling 20 works by A.Y. Jackson through Heffel Fine Art Auction House.

Lauren Haynes has been appointed as the new executive director of Atlanta Contemporary, effective March 16. She succeeds interim director Everett Long, who assumed the role last summer after Floyd Hall's resignation. Haynes joins from the Trust for Governors Island, where she served as vice president of arts & culture and head curator, and brings extensive experience from institutions including the Queens Museum, the Nasher Museum, Crystal Bridges, and the Studio Museum in Harlem.

She also held positions at Creative Time, the New School, MIT, the Nasher Museum of Art, and the Brodsky Center for Innovative Editions, and was a working artist for 40 years.

Kathleen Goncharov, an artist and curator who worked at influential US organizations including Just Above Midtown and Creative Time, died on 31 December at age 73. She most recently served as senior curator at the Boca Raton Museum of Art from 2012 until her retirement in 2024, and previously held positions at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, the MIT List Visual Arts Center, and the New School. Goncharov also served as commissioner of the US Pavilion at the 2003 Venice Biennale, curating Fred Wilson's solo project. She had a solo exhibition of her abstract paintings at Olympia gallery in New York in 2022.

David Zwirner inaugurates new gallery space with Michael Armitage exhibition.

David Zwirner is opening a new gallery building in Chelsea at 533 West 19th Street, inaugurated by an exhibition of new work by Kenyan-British artist Michael Armitage. Titled "Crucible," the show runs from May 8 to June 27, 2025, and features new paintings and bronze reliefs that explore the theme of migration, using Lubugo bark cloth as a support. This is Armitage's first solo show with the gallery since his representation was announced in 2022 and his first solo presentation in New York since 2019.

The ARCUB Cultural Center in Bucharest has announced a major joint retrospective for Lia and Dan Perjovschi, scheduled to run from April 3 to July 26, 2026. The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University has opened "Dis/orient," a new exhibition featuring works by nine artists from the Asian diaspora.
