'Nabi' Leaves SK After 26 Years... Director No Soyoung Begins Anew in Sagan-dong

Art Center Nabi, a leading media art institution in Seoul, is relocating from the SK Group headquarters at the Serein Building to an independent standalone building in Sagan-dong, Jongno-gu, after 26 years. The move follows a legal dispute with SK Innovation, which filed a real estate delivery lawsuit in 2023 after the lease expired in 2019; the court ruled in favor of SK Innovation, and Nabi chose not to appeal. The center will reopen on June 11 with a solo exhibition by kinetic installation artist Han Jinsu titled "Tteum: A Pregnant Pause," featuring works that explore slow change, waiting, and the intersection of machines and nature.

This relocation marks a significant transition for Art Center Nabi from operating within a corporate headquarters to an independent management system, signaling a new chapter for one of Korea's pioneering media art institutions. The move underscores the challenges faced by cultural organizations in navigating corporate real estate disputes, while the reopening exhibition's theme of "latent vitality" and slow fermentation resonates with the institution's renewed autonomy and commitment to exploring art and technology.
