New MassMu exhibit spotlights local artists

The Massillon Museum in Massillon, Ohio, has opened a new exhibition titled “Introducing Massillon Community Arts Council: Creativity within Community” in its Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery. Running through September 13, 2026, the show features works by nine local artists—Bb Blandford, Bruce Budd, David L. Dingwell, Zach Finn, Errick Freeman, Israel Katina, Miranda Marsh, Ashley Palmer, and Jessica Wilhelm—who are founding members of the newly formed Massillon Community Arts Council. The council aims to foster art and culture in the community through murals, public art, and shared creative spaces, with a vision for an arts district called The QuARTer inspired by the New Orleans French Quarter.

This exhibition matters because it highlights a grassroots effort to build a vibrant arts ecosystem in a city traditionally known for its sports culture. By connecting local artists, businesses, and organizations, the Massillon Community Arts Council seeks to use art as a tool for community connection and revitalization. The show also underscores the importance of public funding for the arts, as the museum receives support from ArtsinStark, the Ohio Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts, demonstrating how institutional and community partnerships can sustain local cultural initiatives.
