The city of Santa Clarita presents its latest art exhibition, “Seascapes,” in the First Floor Gallery at City Hall, running through August 12. The juried showcase features works in painting, photography, mixed media, and three-dimensional pieces that explore the beauty and power of the ocean, including shorelines, waves, marine life, and underwater worlds. Featured artist Jody Nelson contributes mixed-media artworks that use layered collage, paint, and pastel to evoke emotional and atmospheric qualities of the sea. The exhibition includes 29 artists total, ranging from Faye Abharian to Dakota Zumsteg.
This exhibition matters because it brings visual art directly into a municipal government space, making it accessible to residents and visitors who might not typically visit a dedicated gallery. By featuring a juried selection of local and regional artists, the city supports community engagement with the arts and provides a platform for artists to showcase their work in a civic setting. Such initiatives strengthen the connection between public institutions and the cultural life of the community, reinforcing the role of art in everyday public spaces.
