London-based artist Slawn has released a collaborative album titled 'Not An Artist' following a month-long residency at Saatchi Yates gallery. From January to February, the gallery was transformed into a live studio environment where Slawn created paintings and recorded music simultaneously. The project featured a wide array of musical collaborators, including Unknown T and Blackhaine, and was executive produced by Arthur Bean.
This release highlights the increasing fluidity between contemporary art, music, and streetwear culture, challenging the traditional white-cube gallery model. By turning a Mayfair gallery into a functional recording studio and production space, Slawn and Saatchi Yates are targeting a younger, digitally-native demographic and redefining the role of the commercial gallery as a site of multidisciplinary performance rather than just static display.
