Contemporary photographers are increasingly rejecting traditional cameras in favor of alternative, camera-less techniques such as photograms, cyanotypes, and chemigrams. These artists draw inspiration from early scientific experiments with light-sensitive materials, like those of Johann Heinrich Schulze and Thomas Wedgwood, who created temporary images using silver nitrate and sunlight before photography was formally invented.
On Friday night, Bobbi Salvör Menuez, Whitney Mallett, and quori Theodor hosted a fundraiser vintage sale above Chinatown at lighting design studio Blue Green Works, benefiting the Trans Justice Funding Project. The event featured poetry and literary readings, with designer donations from Lena Waithe, Pedro Pascal, Chloë Sevigny, Julia Fox, Tommy Dorfman, Conner Ives, and Eckhaus Latta, plus archival pieces from co-organizer John Mollet's personal collection including Hermès and a Jean Paul Gaultier ballet costume. Guests included artists, writers, and photographers such as Collier Schorr, K8 Hardy, and Erin Markey.
The New Yorker has commissioned six contemporary photographers—Marilyn Minter, Awol Erizku, Ryan McGinley, Collier Schorr, Camila Falquez, and Alex Prager—to reimagine historical illustrated covers for the magazine’s centennial. Each photographer created a celebrity portrait inspired by a past cover, such as Erizku’s photo of Spike Lee as Eustace Tilley and Minter’s recreation of a 1925 cover featuring actress Sadie Sink. The project marks only the third time in the magazine’s history that photography has been used for its cover.
Versace has appointed Dario Vitale as its new Chief Creative Officer, and under his direction, the house launched the Spring/Summer 2026 collection at Milan Fashion Week alongside a new initiative called Versace Embodied. This series commissions photographers, painters, filmmakers, and poets to reinterpret Versace’s visual language through their own mediums. The first chapter features contributions from photographer Stef Mitchell, poet Eileen Myles, artist Collier Schorr, photographer Camille Vivier, and photographer Andrea Modica, whose works range from motorcycle portraits to hand-drawn nudes and regional Italian portraiture.
